Dr Jane Haswell

Awards: Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers Gold medal 2007


In 2007, The Insitution of Gas Engineers and Managers' Gold Medal was presented to Dr Jane Haswell CEng MIGEM for her paper entitled “Update on Transmission Standards presented at the Gas Engineering Update Course in 2006. Jane Haswell is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, and a member of IGEM and IMechE. She worked in the UK gas industry for more than 20 years, starting in Research and Development and moving to Transco in 1994 in which she worked in a number of senior management positions with responsibility for aspects of engineering policy and procedures and technical support.

Throughout her career in engineering, Jane has maintained an interest in standards, work, and is currently Chairman of the IGE/TD/1 Panel, which is working on Edition 5 of that Standard. In addition Jane represents IGEM on the BSI transmission pipeline committee. Jane is currently working with Rod McConnell in supporting a UKOPA proposal to develop code supplements for IGEM and BSI relating to the use of pipeline risk assessment for land use planning advice. As well as technical consultancy work, Jane enjoys her role as external lecturer in aspects of Asset Management on the Newcastle University Pipeline MSc course, and has given lectures and presentations on a range of topics including life extension, defect assessment and pipeline up-rating at a number of recent professional courses and seminars.
